Islamophobia is a controversial neologism generally defined as a prejudice against Muslims and political rejection of Islam[1][2][3][4] The term is recorded in use as early as 1976,[5] but came into greater currency in the late 1980s[6] and early 1990s.[7] The term's use has increased since the September 11, 2001 attacks.[8][9]
